Chinese Cultural Productions designs and directs artistic programs that have significantly increased Chinese American participation in the Bay Area arts community. Found in 1989 by choreographer Lily Cai and composer Gang Situ, Chinese Cultural Productions promotes greater public awareness of Chinese dance and music, produces original contemporary work that is firmly rooted in Chinese cultural traditions, challenges American conceptions of traditional Chinese and Chinese-American culture, and encourages our community artists to explore new avenues of self-expression.
Chinese Cultural Production's annual programs include the artistic development of the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company, the production of a major new performance piece fusing traditional and contemporary forms, the presentation of East meets West musical series workshops/ concerts, the conducting of Chinese dance classes and workshops in San Francisco schools, and the training of dancers of all ages through the Lily Cai Dance Academy. Chinese Cultural Productions also presents the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company for their annual home season at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, as well as at numerous festivals, business conventions, community performances, and special events throughout the Bay Area and California.
