For over 10 years, Chinese Cultural Productions (CCP) has been at the forefront of creating original stage works firmly rooted in both the Chinese and American traditions. As the only professional Chinese American dance company from the West Coast, the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company is a rare treasure from San Francisco that is fast becoming recognized nationwide. Presenting a unique blend of traditional Chinese dance and modern choreography, this Company has collaborated with many prominent American artists -- from the Grateful Dead and Chanticleer to Alexander Strings Quartet and New Century Chamber Orchestra.

As an audience member, you may have already experienced the thrill of Begin From Here, Lily Cai’s dramatically explosive ribbon dancing, or the intimate encounter of dancers with beauty and fire in her luminous Candelas -- both audience favorites at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. You may also remember Lily’s gorgeous Dynasty Suite, showcasing courtly dances from the Tang and Qing Dynasties, or even Shiftings, a contemporary and elegant percussive ribbon dance set to the music of John Adams at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel.

A former principal dancer from the Shanghai Opera and a 2000 Irvine Fellow in Dance, Lily Cai is now recognized nationally as a leading authority in Chinese dance. That’s because Lily forges new concepts of Chinese dance in America “by marrying vividly theatrical, demurely feminine Chinese dance with sculptural American modernism” (San Francisco Weekly). Critic Jack Neal describes Lily’s Company as dancers who "radiate the beauty of dance and illusion that emanates from ethereal moving sculptures." (Nevada Events).
